Isle of Palms, Shem Creek and Savannah

Isle of Palms, Shem Creek and Savannah

In August, we took a couple of short trips to see some of the areas around us.  We've figured out that we can get some great last minute deals on Hotels Tonight.  One Sunday we booked a room on the beach on the Isle of Palms about an hour away.  Since we had a room right on the beach, Elissa and Jonathan decided to join us for Sydney's first trip to the beach.

The next two nights we got a great deal on a room at the Shem Creek Inn on Shem Creek just off of Charleston Harbor in Mt. Pleasant
We had a very quiet relaxing stay on Shem Creek.  The hotel pool was in front of the hotel, right by the dock.  We spent most of our time lying poolside, watching the boats and paddleboarders going up and down the creek.  We also saw a group of dolphins swimming in the creek.

One evening, we walked out on the long boardwalk over the marsh and watched people catching blue crabs.

The second evening, we enjoyed the music from a live band coming from Red's Ice House across the creek.

Later in the month, we headed to Savannah for a couple of nights.  This trip we took our bikes and rode all around Savannah.  It was kind of nice seeing the city on bikes because it made it easier to stop whenever we saw anything interesting and we got a lot closer look at all the squares and the houses. churches and shops surrounding them.

We started every day's ride at the beautiful Forsythe Park.

This is the German Memorial fountain in one of the squares.  We love all the spanish moss draped trees.

After leaving Savannah, we stayed one last night in Pooler, Georgia to watch the Saturday night dirt track races at the Oglethorpe Speedway.  It was not quite NASCAR, but it was a lot of fun and very entertaining.
