Cachi and lunch
with friends
On Sunday,
February 3, Ray and Michele dropped us off in Cachi to explore a bit. We walked to the restaurant Casona del
Cafetal on Lake Cachi. I loved this carving in front of the place.
They had
beautiful views of the Lake Cachi.
They had some nice
trails that went along the lake shore.
After we left
Casona del Cafetal, we came across some coffee fields that had just had their
shade trees cut. They grow these shade
trees amongst the coffee plants to provide shade for the coffee beans. Before the coffee can bloom though, the
plants need full sun, so the tops of the trees are cut off. After the coffee blooms and starts to grow
beans the leaves and branches of the trees grow back and provide shade for the
ripening beans.
Down the road a
short walk from Cachi is La Casa del Sonador (the house of the dreamer).
The house is
covered with primitive carvings from the roots of old coffee plants.
The carver sells
a lot of small carvings from the roots of coffee plants.
After looking at
all the carvings, we walked back towards Cachi.
We stopped at a pretty open-air restaurant for coffee.
They served my
coffee in a Costa Rican coffee brewer - a Chorreador, making it one cup at a
time filtered through a piece of fabric that resembles a dirty sock.
The restaurant
had lots of pretty murals on the walls.
Our friend Carol,
met us at the restaurant and took us to her home near Orosi for lunch. Her husband, B.F. had barbequed some
wonderful chicken and pork for lunch. We
hadn't seen that much food at once in a long time. I hope we didn't embarrass ourselves by eating so much, but it all tasted so good.
After lunch,
Carol and B.F. showed us around their place.
They have a
pretty river running through the back of their place with several waterfalls
and a nice natural pool for swimming.
