To Michigan for a Travel Trailer

Sometime this summer we decided that we wanted to purchase a travel travel trailer to be able to live close to Elissa, Jon and Sydney while having our own space and still be able to travel and see the country.  We purchased a new Ford F150 pickup at the end of July and started looking for trailers.  We were limited on the size and weight of trailer we could buy since we wanted a smaller pickup that would get better gas mileage.  We looked at several trailers in this region and lots of trailers on-line.  We quickly decided that summer in the south was a bad time to look at trailers, they were sweltering inside.  Our neighbor in White Gables from Indiana clued us in to looking around Indianna for some good deals and sure enough we found two of the exact trailer we wanted in Kentucky and Michigan.  The one in Michigan, just across the border from Indiana, was much less expensive, so off to Michigan we went.  We took off in mid-September and spent two days getting there and then spent two days at the dealership taking care of paperwork and learning all about our trailer.  I'm a little overwhelmed because nothing operates like things in a home, but Eric feels comfortable with it.   Our dealer set us up with free camping at a nearby camping resort on a lake for a shake-down cruise.  We had packed a few items we thought would be necessary for a short stay.  We made it just in time to enjoy a pretty sunset over the lake after getting set up.

The resort was really old and very popular.  It reminded us of the resort in the Dirty Dancing movie.  There was a big pretty building with a restaurant and bar, that hosted a lot of weddings on weekends.  We weren't quite expecting the cool temperatures in Michigan and had to go out and buy a comforter for our bed.

While we were staying at the camping resort we took one day and went to the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, near Detroit.  They had a lot of great exhibits that were not just cars.  We got to see the chair that President Lincoln was shot in at Ford's Theatre
and the Wiener Mobile!

On our way back to South Carolina, we stayed a couple of nights in Berea, Kentucky.  It was a nice rural area.  Then we stayed a couple of nights in the mountains of North Carolina near Asheville.  We stayed at a pretty campground with a river running through it.

Here we are parked with the river in the background.

Eric relaxing by the river.

We spent one day touring the Biltmore home and grounds in Ashville.  We had been there before a few years ago and loved it, so we were anxious to go again.
