Last Ride and Hunting Island

The Beaufort Arsenal first built in 1798 then rebuilt and expanded in 1852.

A Beaufort style home according to the guide.
We took our last bike ride around Beaufort before checking out of the Beaufort Inn.  We did a little shopping and then headed out of town.

Hunting Island Lighthouse

We crossed a few lowcountry islands on our way to Hunting Island.  On Hunting Island, we passed through a lot of jungle before emerging at a nice beach.  The jungle area is so thick, it was really incredible.  This was were they filmed the Vietnam jungle scene in the movie "Forest Gump".  The beach was very big and really nice.  There were a lot of loggerhead turtle nests along the dunes.  We enjoyed a nice picnic lunch in the shade near the lighthouse.

After leaving Hunting Island, we drove across several more lowcountry islands on our way to Hilton Head Island.  We saw a lot of shrimp boats out fishing in the waterways and Gullah woman making baskets on their porches.  After we checked into our hotel on Hilton Head, we had a nice swim in the pool and relaxed for a while poolside.  We saw that a nearby British pub had received good reviews so we decided to enjoy some fish and chips before watching the Olympics.
