More of Savannah

Window of the Mercer House
On Wednesday August 8, we decided to tour the interior of the Mercer House.  It was very beautiful and filled with an eclectic collection of antiques just as described in the book.  It was neat getting to see the scene of the crime and all the lavish parties. I really wanted to see the pipe organ on the second floor, but unfortunately the tour was just of the first floor and the sunken garden in the back.  We were not allowed to take any photos while on the tour.

One thing we loved about Savannah was all the green squares and parks.  We wandered around Forsythe Park and stopped to watch the fountain.  As we were wandering around the historic district, we stumbled across another old cemetery.  This one was in use from the 1750's to the 1850's.  It contained the graves of some Revolutionary War heroes that we had read about in school and the grave of someone that died in a duel.  We saw the statue of Johnny Mercer who wrote Moon River and about 1400 other songs.  He was from Savannah.  We decided to eat dinner at the Moon River Brewing Company.  The food and their hand crafted beer was excellent.  We parked by Club One where the Lady Chablis from "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" still performs.
